حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ بُجَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ سَهْلًا وَاللَّهِ أَوْهَمَ الْحَدِيثَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَتَبَ إِلَى يَهُودَ أَنَّهُ قَدْ وُجِدَ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِكُمْ قَتِيلٌ فَدُوهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكَتَبُوا يَحْلِفُونَ بِاللَّهِ خَمْسِينَ يَمِينًا مَا قَتَلْنَاهُ وَلَا عَلِمْنَا قَاتِلًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَوَدَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ مِائَةِ نَاقَةٍ .

Urdu Translation

عبدالرحمٰن بن بجید کہتے ہیں کہ   اللہ کی قسم، سہل کو اس حدیث میں وہم ہو گیا ہے، واقعہ یوں ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے یہود کو لکھا کہ تمہارے بیچ ایک مقتول ملا ہے تو تم اس کی دیت ادا کرو، تو انہوں نے جواب میں لکھا: ہم اللہ کی پچاس قسمیں کھا کر کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نے اسے قتل نہیں کیا، اور نہ ہمیں اس کے قاتل کا پتا ہے، وہ کہتے ہیں: اس پر اس کی دیت رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنے پاس سے سو اونٹ ( خود ) ادا کی۔

English Translation

Narrated Abdur-Rahman bin Bujaid: I swear by Allah, Sahl had a misunderstanding about this tradition. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم wrote to the Jews: A slain man has been found amongnst you, so pay his bloodwit. They wrote (to him): Swearing by Allah fifty oaths, we neither killed him nor do we know his slayer. He said: Then the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم himself paid his bloodwit which consisted of one hundred she-camels.
