حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمًا إِذْ رَأَى نُخَامَةً فِي قِبْلَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَتَغَيَّظَ عَلَى النَّاسِ ثُمَّ حَكَّهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَأَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَدَعَا بِزَعْفَرَانٍ فَلَطَّخَهُ بِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ قِبَلَ وَجْهِ أَحَدِكُمْ إِذَا صَلَّى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَا يَبْزُقْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ رَوَاهُ إِسْمَاعِيلُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ، نَحْوَ حَمَّادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَذْكُرُوا الزَّعْفَرَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَاهُ مَعْمَرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَثْبَتَ الزَّعْفَرَانَ فِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَذَكَرَ يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ الْخَلُوقَ.

Urdu Translation

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایک دن خطبہ دے رہے تھے کہ اسی دوران اچانک آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مسجد کے قبلہ میں بلغم دیکھا تو آپ لوگوں پر ناراض ہوئے، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اسے کھرچ کر صاف کیا۔ راوی کہتے ہیں: میرے خیال میں ابن عمر نے فرمایا آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے زعفران منگا کر اس میں رگڑ دیا اور فرمایا: جب تم میں سے کوئی نماز پڑھتا ہے تو اللہ تعالیٰ اس کے سامنے ہوتا ہے ۱؎، لہٰذا وہ اپنے سامنے نہ تھوکے ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: اسماعیل اور عبدالوارث نے یہ حدیث ایوب سے اور انہوں نے نافع سے روایت کی ہے اور مالک، عبیداللہ اور موسیٰ بن عقبہ نے ( براہ راست ) نافع سے حماد کی طرح روایت کی ہے مگر ان لوگوں نے زعفران کا ذکر نہیں کیا ہے، اور معمر نے اسے ایوب سے روایت کیا ہے اور اس میں زعفران کا لفظ موجود ہے، اور یحییٰ بن سلیم نے عبیداللہ کے واسطہ سے اور انہوں نے نافع کے واسطہ سے ( زعفران کے بجائے ) «خلوق» ( ایک قسم کی خوشبو ) کا ذکر کیا ہے۔

English Translation

Ibn Umar reported: One day while the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلمwas giving sermon he suddenly saw phlegm on the wall towards the qiblah (the direction to which Muslims turn in prayer) of the mosque. So he became angry at people. He then scraped it and sent for saffron and stained with it. He then said: When any one of you prays, Allah, the Exalted, faces him: he, therefore, should not spit before him.
