أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْحَارِثُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قِرَاءَةً عَلَيْهِ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَكَرَ رَمَضَانَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَصُومُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْا الْهِلَالَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدِرُوا لَهُ .

Urdu Translation

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی الله عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے رمضان کا ذکر کیا تو فرمایا: ”تم روزہ نہ رکھو یہاں تک کہ چاند دیکھ لو، اور روزہ رکھنا بند کرو یہاں تک کہ ( چاند ) دیکھ لو، ( اور ) اگر فضا ابر آلود ہو تو اس کا حساب لگا لو“۔

English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah mentioned Ramadan and said: Do not fast until you see the crescent, and do not stop fasting until you see it, and if it is obscured from you (too cloudy), then work it out.
