Salman bin ‘Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: When any one of you breaks his fast, let him break it with dates. If he cannot find dates, then let him break it with water, for it is a means of purification.

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الرَّبَابِ أُمِّ الرَّائِحِ بِنْتِ صُلَيْعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمِّهَا سَلْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا أَفْطَرَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَى تَمْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَى الْمَاءِ فَإِنَّهُ طَهُورٌ .

سلمان بن عامر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جب تم میں سے کوئی افطار کرے تو کھجور سے افطار کرے، اور اگر اسے کھجور نہ ملے تو پانی سے افطار کرے، اس لیے کہ وہ پاکیزہ چیز ہے ۔
