It was narrated that Wa’il bin Hujr said: “The Prophet (ﷺ) saw me when I had long hair. He said: ‘Bad news, bad news!’ So I went away and cut it short. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) saw me and said: ‘I did not mean you, but this is better.’”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَسُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِيهِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ وَائِلِ بْنِ حُجْرٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ رَآنِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلِي شَعَرٌ طَوِيلٌ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ذُبَابٌ ذُبَابٌ ،‏‏‏‏ فَانْطَلَقْتُ فَأَخَذْتُهُ،‏‏‏‏ فَرَآنِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي لَمْ أَعْنِكَ وَهَذَا أَحْسَنُ .

وائل بن حجر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے دیکھا کہ میرے بال لمبے ہیں تو فرمایا: منحوس ہے منحوس ، یہ سن کر میں چلا آیا، اور میں نے بالوں کو چھوٹا کیا، پھر جب نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے دیکھا تو فرمایا: میں نے تم کو نہیں کہا تھا، ویسے یہ بال زیادہ اچھے ہیں ۱؎۔
