Opportunities of Earning in hilly areas

(Fazal Rahim Awan, Haripur)

Due to lacks of alternate jobs large numbers of mountain people migrate to urban areas to find alternate business or work places, while there are too much resources that are going waste. Any person can earn more income by the collection and selling of medicinal herbs, by the growing of plants, also by the turning waste resources to beneficial products. In this regard, I would like to convey my knowledge of mentioned opportunities by the writing of this article. We know that crystals of mint are being used in toffees, cigarettes and medicines, this product is being sold on herbal stores as per 12 grams for Rupees 150/. Raw material of this product is the mint and mint is available in huge quantities on the banks of rivers. Unfortunately community of these areas has not knowledge of its benefits and this source being wasted in large amounts. There are many other herbal resources that are still known as useless while they are being used in the manufacturing of medicines and known as valuable in markets. People of hilly areas can plant saffron and a farmer can earn rupees 35000 to 100000 every year by cultivation of its 20 plants. A plant of saffron is presently available for Rs. 150 on nurseries. It is also a valuable and costly herb that can be sold per 12 grams for Rupees 3000 Moreover large numbers of pebble stone are available in the rivers, this stone is being sold for Rupees 25 per Kg for the use in construction and decorations. Now I want to state about Olive, in different district of our country there are above than 80 million wild Olive trees, actually low lying hilly areas have suitable weathers for the natural growth of Olive. Approximately life of an Olive tree is up to 2000 years, we have got a lot of above than 500 years old historically protected trees of Olive as assets, Due to shortage of business opportunities some people of mountains have been engaged in the cutting and selling of Olive woods on cheap rates for burning purpose. Continuity in deforestation is a major reason of climates change. Conservations depends upon the value of resources ,a farmer never like to cut or damage a branch of Apple while a fruited branch of Olive is thrown by him in oven for burning purpose or a green twin of Olive is given by him to goats or other animals for eating . Germanium rates of Olive seeds are 5% while quantity of Olive seeds goes waste in the amount of tons every year. To protect the resources ,to grow more opportunities of jobs and to resolve climates issues it is need of time to highlight value of resources through the awareness of community by the media resources or through the converting use less items into beneficial products. In this regard I want to explain that every seed, twin, leave of wild Olive is natural source of income. Extract for Oil and shampoo can be obtained from Olive leaves, some people like coffee of Olive leaves, Leaves of Olive is a favorite and healthy feed for animals, Some jewelry items and Tasbih can also made by Olive leaves.Olive twins can be utilizes in the making of artificial flowers these are also beneficial for the making of teeth brushes. Fresh fruit of Olive provide a different and unique kind of flavor while keeping it in plastic jar for some days. A person can make Olive scent that is rare product. Powder of Olive woods coal can be used as a tooth powder for the quick shining. Woods of Olive are also being used in the making of furniture item, for roofs and tools handles. From an old age Olive tree 2000 to 3000 numbers fruits fall every year, A farmer can earn Rupees 2000 to 3000 by the plucking, processing and moving this source to beaded products such as pure Rosary, Necklace and bracelets of Olive seeds. Vast ranges of forests are also surrounding by the evergreen trees of pine, the leaves of pine may be used in the making of paper pulp while Oil for paint can be prepared by the gum of pine trees. Pine cones can be utilized in the making of flower stands and decoration items. Due to areas environment some wild fruit such as fig and pomegranate can be changed in to big size and tasty variety by the budding and grafting activities. In this article, I also want to state that vast ranges of forests come under the fires every years. In these moments large numbers of trees are burnt .This loss does not recover and forest fires are also harmful for climates futures. Any person does not like to look his garden of fruit trees in flames while usually local community does not take serious care against the forest fires. In these circumstances a lot of birds and wild life also eggs, nests and herbal resources are burnt. We have got many resources from our elders but unfortunately we are not yet able to leave same quantities for our next coming generations. So it is need of hour to play our positive roles for conversations.
