The Change in Visual Communication on Television

As we all know that in previous times, there was only one channel alive which was PTV and at that time there were not many resources available and no ways to change the boring black and white screen. Then later on, as time started to modify from old-fangled to advancement in every part and parcel of life, new technologies and equipments emerge to modify Television transmissions as well.

Nowadays, there are countless automations introduced that help in making things creative, catchy and easy. There are so many technologies like SLR which is “Single Lens Reflex” and DSLR which stands for “Digital Single Lens Reflex” and there are so many expensive lenses available in which the most popular among youngsters is 50mm lens. These lenses have introduced to fix in DSLR for taking beautiful shots. Flash guns and lightings for shooting videos which include the basic lighting setup which is “Three point lighting”. It consists of Key Light, Fill Light and Backlight or Background Light. There are various kinds of MICS that means Microphones which include Collar MIC, Boom MIC, Studio MICS, Condenser MIC and Wireless Microphone System. Now, there are so many other technologies exist which can be approached by individuals and are used in almost every transmission on Television today.

If we leave the technical side for a moment, so there are other things as well which has transformed and the most prominent of them is “Media Psychology”. Media has now become that much expert in catching audience attention that it just take a moment for media to inject people, even those as well who never ever wanted to watch it. Media is transforming itself according to the transformation of the world and human mentality. Media knows what people like and what they don’t and they present programs in such a way that people can’t ignore a bit of it. Media has introduced a modern sense of dressing in which they are mostly adopting westernization and motivating people to forget their own cultures by wearing skinny dresses, jeans, shirts, coats, tights, maxy, topless, downless and cut out dresses in their routine life. Even the anchors and presenters are trying to attract people like the anchor person “Sana Bucha”, who was used to wear hijab with a proper decent dress and just to make people stick to her talk show and that specific channel; she started to modify herself by doing the show with no hijab and in modern stylish dressing. Even, later on, she got involved in the modeling field to become a public figure and to get fame. A short and stylish way of speaking has introduced like some speak English words in the way “Gonna instead of going to, wanna instead of want to, ain’t instead of am not, are not and is not and so many more words like that are being transformed. Media also allow people to mix up the words of multiple languages and be bilingual.

Another big element which is being promoted by Television Transmissions is “Spending Huge Budget on Transmissions”. I saw the making of the new “Coca Cola ad” last night and other VLOGS by “Momina Mustehsan”. Just to produce that ad with duration of less than one minute, a huge crew visited different abroad places and spend a huge amount of money on the make ups, dresses, looks, treatments, massages and food as well. They didn’t just spend budget on the people but equipments as well. They travelled a lot just to find a good outdoor location to shoot the ad over there. Coca Cola sponsored the complete budget spent on them, as it’s one of the most popular brands of the world and earns heavy revenue. In previous era, there was only one set available where drama shoots done, since the beginning till the end and now for shooting a drama, the production houses hire or take beautiful stylish huge bungalows on rent just to portray a good location and to show the life of an elite and sometimes, they travel to other countries with the cast and crew for having good locations.

The old robotic news presenters have changed to a fighter running towards enemies in a battle field. Morning shows have changed from good and interesting women discussions to a place for wedding ceremonies and baby showers with dancing people in heavy dresses.

Where media of the current Television is making the presentations in a spicy and extra melodramatic way, it’s making it in expressive mannerism as well. News packages and news bulletins are portraying in a way that if the news package is about weather telecast of the cities, so the presenter or news reader take some steps ahead from the desk and come in front of the screen while reading and at the background, there’s a huge cinema like screen on which different shots and videos telecasting related to weather and climate changes. Tickers, SOTS, video shots and live telecasting by reporters are also included in news bulletins on Television now. If any incident like bomb blast, accident or terrorist attack happens, media portray it in a way like the reporters take interviews from the family of victims and expose live the complete wracked situation at the place of incident with a sad music in the background of the videos shots.

Television has faced a major change; difficult to judge, whether positive change or negative change. However, we are living in a mobile world and so the Television is.
