MOSQUITO'S PROPOSAL
(MANZOOR HASSAN KAZIM, HUSSAINABAD, SKARDU)
It is said that when the mosquito was for the first time created, it came directly to a human being with the intention of sucking some blood for its survival but while it was hovering around the body in search of a better place to land, it caught the sight of the human ear. The mosquito was so fascinated that it directly fell in love with the ear. It was a kind of love at first sight and of one side as well. In other words, it was one sided love of the mosquito. It was so attracted by the beauty of the ear that it couldn’t help flying near it to express its heart felt feelings for the ear. At first, it hesitated a bit and then reminding itself ‘now or never’ mustered up all its courage and dared proposing the ear. When the ear heard what the mosquito said, it couldn’t believe its own ears and when it lent ears to what mosquito was saying, the ear really got furious and turned red in color with anger. The ear with a disgusting tone bluntly and arrogantly refused mosquito’s proposal. The mosquito once more requested the ear to review the proposal and revise the decision, if possible. The proud ear, this time, replied more harshly and said, “Have you ever seen yourself? Such a fragile creature! Look at yourself, I feel ashamed to think of your existence even. Get you gone weak creature! And I am sure that soon I will be getting the good news of your death”.
Alas! It’s a pity that the beautiful mosquito was rejected for being so weak.
After listening to the harsh reply of the ear, the rejected and dejected mosquito cried, cried and cried even its voice started getting weaker and weaker, and when the ear paid no heed rather turned a deaf ear to the heart wrenching cries of the mosquito, it flew away crying at the top of its lyrical voice.
It is said that since then, whenever it gets dark the mosquito comes stealthily from somewhere twice, if not thrice, still crying in the same tone, with which it had left long ago, to tell the ear that it is still alive and pleading the ear to change the decision and making the ear realize that life and death don’t have anything to do with the strength and weakness, it’s simply in the hands of God.
Whenever the mosquito comes crying to tell the ear that it is still alive and wants to get married with it, the ear gets itself beaten with the human hands. No one has ever known except the ear itself whether its beating is due to a kind of repentance or fury and the helpless mosquito again flies away in panic not getting any clue of what’s happening.
Dear readers, have you ever heard a mosquito proposing your ears? If not, let the ears know the 'Mosquito’s Proposal'
