Education behind the bars of Covid-19

(Abdul Basit, Karachi)

The COVID-19 pandemic is the first and supreme condition crisis. Several states rightly concluded to close schools, colleges and universities. Pedagogy is moving online, on an untested and unusual structure. Numerous estimates have truly been discontinued. Certainly, these drawbacks will not only be a short-term crisis but can also have long-term impacts on affected students. Unevenness is likely to enhance among students. The closure of schools, colleges and universities suspended the teaching for students all over the world.

Greatly, the lockdown of institutions not only affects inside inspections. In the United Kingdom, all exams for the main public qualifications have been cancelled. Depending on the duration of the lockdown, we will possibly observe similar strategies around the world and furthermore in Pakistan.

In developing countries like Pakistan, to repay for the loss of students it can be a productive direction in future education and it can sustain academic reforms in the future. The function of this will be that the reciprocal strategy of the government and private scholastic societies will validate to be in favour of the students in the future. In extension, the cost of accessing online schooling needs to be lessened in areas where online education is being provided using technologies. The Education Commission requires to stand in consistent touch with the academic institutions to get the acknowledgement. And the related authority should provide a platform where students can inhabit grievances regarding online teaching so that they can be reasonably reformed.

Among the massive losses, due to the Covid-19, there would be too many to name, but the two most damages done are quite significant and unignorably unforgettable; Death of precious lives and educational crisis which took birth during Covid-19. It is of the record that national economy, educational discontinuity and unemployment are major victims of the virus, I assure.

The country which is already behind the bars of illiteracy is now stuck in a huge educational crisis. No wonder, the entire world is facing this, yet the problems have occurred will not have the same implications and time period which they could stand up. What I observed in a constant process of spreading disease is; Guess what, yes it unawareness, illiteracy along with ignorance. It is s complete lack of being unknown from what is going on, inside and outside the circle of the globe. These problems are indirectly associated with not having the quality of education. Education is stuck in between life and death now a day. The state which is already facing so many crises especially in the area of education; Now where it will be left out by the cause and effects of the coronavirus? According to the statistics, Pakistan already has the second-highest global rate of school-age children, who don’t get themselves in school, more than 39%. After reopening of the schools, there would be another problem to bring the kids on the track where they were before. Now it is dire need to make such policies that could compel to the parents to send their children to school, it is just because of the increasing ratio of unemployment. Except this, the learning gap would be a massive challenge for teachers to cope with. I think post-pandemic initiatives must be responsive, adaptive and most importantly localized enough.

The provincial governments were in favour of online classes; I wonder how they can ignore the system of the country where they rule. Are they not well aware of their country? Does our educational system allow electronic classes? Do we have proper equipment which can assure all the students learning at home? Does any leader know that Pakistan is the country which has 22 % of people who use the internet? Do you have given a laptop or smartphone to any student before taking this initiative? It is a major indicator that our ruling elite is not a part of our system at all. E-Learning at the school level, I reject it by all means in the country with fewer resources in the area of education, how can it be progressive enough in our system? Our school conditions are out of order that one normal student cannot survive easily in the government school where fans and other necessary items are not satisfactory. As far as online classes are concerned, such steps cannot satisfy to our future generation. We will have to face quite firm implications of its E-Learning. As we all know that quality education is a key aspect of future success. The merit is increasing day by day in the world. The good time is coming where merit will only survive. To welcome this era, it is crucial enough to prepare for such glorious days to attain the required determination.

In conclusion, I imagine our education system must be bound enough to prepare our students to be productive, well citizens of the society. it can only be possible by making teaching quite comprehensive. In the 21st century, there is no place for recommendation and mere so-called qualifications.
