Educational Institutions neglecting the importance of Ramadan

(Quratulain Siddiqui, Karachi)

The Holy month of Ramadan is a significant period of the year for Muslims all over the world. We are fortunate to be living in an Islamic state where religious practices can be performed freely. Despite being part of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, it is sad to see the educational institutions neglecting the importance of the sacred month.

Every year educational institutions declare summer and winter holidays followed by the western culture. Where instead students should be given Ramadan break to develop spiritual and moral discipline. Last year if not for the sake of lockdown students would have never experienced Ramadan at home.

This year schools and universities have yet again continued the academic session in Ramadan. Students are busy taking classes either virtually or face to face rather than indulging in ways to please the Almighty.

There's no denying that education has great importance in Islam but the religious and spiritual practices of the faith are equally important. Therefore, I believe educational authorities should offer students the best chances to benefit from both.
