Politics In Educational Institutes
(Hafiz Muhammad Noman, Karachi)
Through your esteemed column I
am writing this letter on behalf of some of my friends who are the students of
MA (Final Year) at Mass Communication Department, University of Karachi.
Recently my friends have passed their second semester. They are very upset and
aggrieved on the results as they were not expecting so! They all are very
regular and good students and got positions in first semester! But those who
used to be irregular or absent from classes have got higher marks than my
friends in second semester! They are unable to believe how the teachers of Mass
Communication Department can cheat them! Even some students didn’t submit their
assignments of 30 to 40 marks but the teachers have counted and given them good
numbers in assignments too! Why so?!
On the other hand they claimed that during exams, a teacher refused to let some
students appear in the exams as they had been absent the whole semester! But the
same teacher had to allow them to appear in exams after the students called a
big shot from a controversial political party who threatened the teacher and the
teacher had to retreat! Not only they appeared in the exams but they all got
higher marks than those who were eligible! I want to ask the concerned
authorities what is the system of education in University of Karachi?! Is it
right to deprive eligible students of their rights?! Don’t they think that it
will affect negatively?! Isn’t it injustice with those who regularly attended
classes, worked hard, made their assignments with great efforts and traveled a
lot for university so that they could obtain good marks but in return, they got
less numbers than ineligible students?! How pity it is! It is a very shameful
act by the teachers because if they wanted to give good numbers to ineligible
students so, at least they should not have given them higher marks than eligible
students! The teachers should have at least taken care of eligible and regular
students!
My friends after this situation think that they should be corrupted like others
and join any political parties because in this way, may be they can bag good
numbers without any efforts! They can save their money if they won’t go to
university and be absent from classes like others! I am afraid to say that the
teachers themselves are hostage in university and compelled to give good numbers
to ineligible political vandals! I humbly request to the teachers to please have
mercy upon eligible students and don’t deprive them of their rights lest good
students should start running away from the classes and joining parties to
support them! And then no students will remain to respect teachers I am afraid!
