INDEPENDENCE DAY
(Hafiz Muhammad Noman, Karachi)
That was the same date of 14th
August, the same month of holy Ramadan when the Muslims bagged their own country
“Pakistan”! The Muslims entered Pakistan chanting the slogans “Pakistan Zindabad”
and knelt down or bowed in Sajdah before Allah Almighty Who blessed them a
separate and independent land to survive according to Islamic teachings as the
land was bagged on the name of Islam! Not only the Muslims but other religious
groups were also given rights to freely worship what they wanted to do!
A very historical event was at last accomplished after great efforts by a great
leader Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the Muslims of the sub-continent, by
the grace of Allah Almighty, got their own country! When I see the time of
division, it hurts a lot how the Muslims sacrificed their lives! Men, women and
children were hugely massacred brutally! The same situation today has prevailed
as the whole country has been bathed in blood! A number of innocent people are
being massacred brutally on daily basis! There is just one difference that the
Hindus and the Sikhs massacred the Muslims at the time of division whereas today
the Muslims are scuffled among themselves and killing one another whether on
sectarian basis or any other issues! Everybody has forgotten the teachings of
Islam and none feels the dignity of the country!
We, today, are losing our national identification! The reason for this is that
we have been ethnically divided! Today the nation needs to be united in this
difficult time but on the other hand, we see that new issues like establishing
new provinces has been created and resultantly, we can see the increasing
intensity of language discrimination and people have started killing one
another.
A decade ago, there used to be an environment when the governmental media i.e.
radio and TV created an environment that gave strength to our patriotism. As the
national day was forthcoming, governmental media aired national songs, debate
and quiz programs, talk shows while military parade, military exhibitions, and
flag hoisting ceremonies were arranged which the nation attended zealously or
enthusiastically but unfortunately all these activities no longer take place
today! In this decade, a new generation is growing up that doesn’t know the
taste of the patriotism which elderly people availed. None denies that problems
still exist and need to be resolved but these kinds of activities at least give
spirit to the nation to face difficult times! The government in this regard must
consider these kinds of activities that can perhaps give more energy to the
nation and Pakistan needs its nationals’ patriotism! May Allah Almighty preserve
and bless Pakistan always! Aameen!
