SCRIFICIAL ANIMALS AND THEIR HINDU NAMES
(Hafiz Muhammad Noman, Karachi)
When Eid-ul-Azha (Sacrificial
Eid) comes, all the Muslims sacrifice animals as a Sunnah of the prophet Hazrat
Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him), who Allah ordered to sacrifice His lovely and
obedient son Hazrat Ismail (Peace Be Upon Him) because Allah Almighty checked
the prophet Ibrahim’s faith in this way. History is a witness that Hazrat
Ibrahim (P.B.U.H) acted upon the order of his Lord and his lovely son the
prophet Ismail did not retreat as well and let his father sacrifice him for his
Lord. As the prophet Ibrahim put the knife on his dearer son’s neck, Allah sent
a calf and replaced Hazrat Ismail (P.B.U.H). That day was became the part of the
Muslims’ lives and since then they celebrate Eid-ul-Azha every year
enthusiastically and sacrifice animals expressing their faith in memory of the
event.
It feels very pity to see today’s Muslims who are forgetting the real aim of
sacrifice (Qurbani). As time passed, the Muslims started exhibiting their
sacrificial animals in shape of expensive, big and beautiful animals. Today they
don’t concentrate on Sunnah but they are in the race of buying expensive, big
and beautiful animals so that people will admire or praise them. This is really
a shameful act for the Muslims as they are going far from the real aim of the
Sunnah! Their exhibition will not be acceptable to Allah Almighty as He checks
the faith of the Muslims and He needs nothing instead!
Few days ago, I happened to go to Cattle Mundi or Market with some of my friends
at Super Highway. That was the first time when I went to any cattle market in my
life. My friends insisted me to go along with them. As I was curious to see good
sacrificial animals, I went there. Surely there were good animals and I got
pleased to see them but I was further disappointed to find a new situation which
is definitely shameful for all. I found that there were many sign boards
installed in the Mundi and various sacrificial animals’ pictures were painted on
them. The main thing to observe was their names. Traders of the animals kept
their Hindu names and other female names i.e. Gajhni, Bodygaurd, Kali Charan,
Neelum etc. Every Muslim could easily think how shameful it is for us that the
traders chose Hindu names for sacrificial animals! What perception will a person
receive when he sacrifices his animal on the Eid day! Isn’t it forbidden?!
Shouldn’t we avoid these types of animals having Hindu names?! Where are the
Muslim clerics on this issue?!
In accordance with my opinion, it is the responsibility of the clerics to issue
Fatwahs on these animals and make the Muslims aware of this issue! Also it is
the responsibility of the Muslims not to buy those animals having Hindu names
because this is a sacred or holy occasion to prove their faith to Allah Almighty
and for this, sacred animals should be bought! Also the Muslims should avoid
exhibiting their expensive animals and opting out of this useless race! Purely
sacrifice their animals in memory of Sunnah and pray for the acceptance of their
sacrifice!
