GUJRANWALA RESULTS: AN ATTEMPT
TO PLAY WITH FORTUNE OF HARDWORKING STUDENTS
This article refers to the recent FSC/FA part-i result published by BISE
Gujranwala. Very unusual misstatements appeared in the result announcement. Even
the students who were present in papers were shown absent. Marks of subjects
were haphazardly categorized. Like Practical Marks were included with economics
paper which doesn’t contain practical in fact; some other mistakes were also
observed. The publication of the result disappointed the hard working youth of
Pakistan. Gujranwala is the large division of Punjab and with the messed up
result students from six districts including Gujranwala, Gujarat, Hafiz bad,
Sialkot, Mandi Baha ul din, and Narowal affected. The publication of the results
triggered student protests in several cities of the province. Especially
Gujranwala, Lahore, GT road Gujarat, Multan, Bahawalpur and some other parts of
the province seemed in protests. Due to the appalling result one student from
Government College committed suicide too according to media sources.
On Friday, the demonstrations started from Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan
and Mandi Baha ul din soon after the day of announcement of bogus results. The
government authorities took some actions on the third day when demonstrations
took strength and students surrounded the Gujranwala Board building. The angry
students burnt the records of board office and also broke down some board
property too. Very huge numbers of students were participating in protest for
their rights. At some occasions parents of offended students seemed joining the
protests. The media teams were also present there and they showed the live
protests in between Saturday morning and mid noon.
Later on, in the evening of Saturday intermediate part-i results of several
boards cancelled. The measure was taken following the protests across the
Punjab. The overall credit must go to student who stood up for their rights.
Their stand compelled the government to cancel the results and the revised
results will be announced again with 45 days and students who scored between 600
to 900 would get their papers re-checked without being charged any fees. Now it
seems that students by hook or by crook have gotten their rights. But, one
student lost his life in suicide attempt in the reaction and about 15 students
injured in opposition with police. What should be done to the responsible ones?
The guilty must be punished. There is severe need of setting an example from the
event. Education system where on one side has many other problems like copy
culture etc, has also faced the difficulty due to inattentive board actions.
There must be held an effective enquiry and the guilty must be reprimanded.
