Abraham Accords or Religious Deception?

By: Prof. Masood Akhtar Hazarvi

Over the past few years, a new religious concept has begun to emerge on the global stage, commonly referred to as the "Abrahamic Religion." This idea has been introduced under attractive banners such as "interfaith harmony" and "global peace." However, the underlying objectives are far more complex and dangerous.

The backdrop to this idea begins in 2020, when, under the patronage of then-U.S. President Donald Trump, a significant agreement was signed between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco — a pact named the Abraham Accords. Upon its public announcement, this accord stirred a wave of religious and intellectual unrest across the Muslim world. This agreement is not just a diplomatic development; rather, it represents an attempt to construct an artificial ideological framework aimed at merging Islam, Judaism, and Christianity into a single unified narrative.

The situation has now reached a point where, as a direct result of this agreement, a religious complex named the "Abrahamic Family House" has been established in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. This complex houses a mosque, a church, and a synagogue under one roof, serving as a symbolic center of this new "global religious identity." During his recent visit to the Middle East on May 17, 2025, Donald Trump personally visited the site and declared it a "magnificent example of interfaith harmony."

But the real question is: you may unite mosques and churches under one roof, but how will you reconcile belief in one God with belief in three gods? Is this truly harmony — or a covert yet dangerous offensive against Islamic identity?

The so-called "Abrahamic Religion" is in fact a dangerous ideological construct aimed at distorting Islam, cloaked deceptively in the rhetoric of "interfaith harmony." While the Abraham Accords are outwardly hailed as a milestone for peace in the Middle East, their true agenda is to normalize Israel’s acceptance in the Arab world, weaken the Palestinian resistance, erode Islamic identity, and create theological and cultural disruption within the Muslim Ummah.

Under the supervision of Jared Kushner (Donald Trump’s son-in-law), an international campaign titled the Abrahamic Faiths Initiative was launched. It propagates the belief that Muslims, Jews, and Christians can unite on common ground. However, within this framework, Islamic beliefs are being presented in diluted, "interfaith" terms, effectively stripping them of their original spirit.

As Muslims, we have serious theological and intellectual objections to this agreement:

1. Contradiction with the Qur’an:

The Qur’an clearly describes Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) as a "Hanif Muslim" — a monotheist who submitted wholly to God.

> "Ibrahim was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allah]." (Aal-e-Imran: 67)

This verse unmistakably refutes any attempt to affiliate Prophet Ibrahim with any religion that came after him. He was solely a Muslim and a monotheist — thus the Qur’anic perspective completely negates the Abrahamic Religion concept.

2. Rejection of Finality of Prophethood:
The "Abrahamic Religion" model does not recognize Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as the Final Messenger. It places Judaism and Christianity on par with Islam — in contradiction to Islam’s foundational belief in the finality of Prophethood.
To accept this narrative is to undermine the doctrine of Khatm-e-Nabuwwat (Finality of Prophethood) — an unacceptable compromise for any believing Muslim.

3. Betrayal of the Palestinian Cause:
This agreement betrays the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people for self-determination. Forming relations with Israel while it continues its illegal occupation of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Jerusalem, and Palestinian lands is morally and Islamically indefensible.

4. Reducing Islam to Mere Spirituality:
Islam is not merely a spiritual path; it is a complete way of life — a comprehensive code (Deen-e-Kamil). The "Abrahamic Religion" tries to limit Islam to ethics and abstract values, thereby stripping it of its legal, political, and societal framework.

5. Political Exploitation of Religion:
This agreement represents an attempt to use religion as a diplomatic tool. By offering economic incentives, Arab states were encouraged to normalize ties with Israel — a clear case of politicizing faith.

6. A Reminder of Akbar’s 'Din-e-Ilahi':
This model resembles Emperor Akbar’s failed attempt to create a syncretic religion — "Din-e-Ilahi" — by merging elements of various faiths. Just as that experiment failed, this ideological trial must also be resisted with the intellectual and spiritual clarity of reformers like Imam Ahmad Sirhindi (Mujaddid Alf Sani), not by opportunistic scholars who serve political interests.

7. Fear of Islam’s Global Rise:
Islam is currently the world’s fastest-growing religion, with people around the globe embracing it for its truth and peace. This fabricated religious project is a reactionary attempt by Islam’s opponents to curb its appeal — a scheme that must be rejected. The Muslim Ummah must recognize the deceptive nature of this "religious globalization" project and take united action at every level to protect Islamic beliefs, law, culture, and civilization — for Islam is a complete, perfect, and divinely revealed religion. This is why scholars like Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayyeb of Al-Azhar and numerous global Islamic institutions have declared the Abraham Accords a modern ideological trial (fitnah) and rejected them categorically. They have made it clear: Religious tolerance does not mean surrendering the core tenets of faith.
The most pressing question of our time is:
Will we guard our religion or, under global pressure, reduce it to a minor part of the "Abrahamic tradition" and lose our identity?

The reality is that the Abrahamic Religion and the narrative built around it are part of a deliberate ideological and political project aimed at weakening the foundations of Islam. It is a religious deception created by those who fear the truth of Islam — and it can only be exposed through knowledge, awareness, and deep religious commitment. Muslims must clearly distinguish between interfaith dialogue and compromise on Islamic beliefs. Dialogue is possible at any forum and on any level — but compromising on the doctrines of Islam is absolutely unacceptable.
