Happiness is such a thing, such a state of mind that no one has been able to define till today, but we all feel it and want to keep feeling it. It is not a constant state of mind. We cannot stay happy always. We can laugh and enjoy, but can we stay happy all the time? The answer is no. It is human nature that happiness is related to some temporary event or occasion. Yes, there are many people who, even in moments of sorrow, feel peace and happiness inside, that is a different state of mind which we call joy. There is a difference between happiness and joy, but there are also some people who stay less happy or remain restless. If a person is often or always unhappy, surely something is missing and needs to be looked into. It might not be that person’s fault or choice. That person might not truly love themselves and may, without knowing, be guided by self-hate. It can be any reason, but it should be fixed by that person themselves, not by others.
According to me, a human’s life is a search for happiness. Life is a battle with everything that becomes the enemy of our happiness. Some people win this battle and some lose. And some keep fighting this battle all their lives. And among all these, there are also some people who, maybe, even after winning the battle, step back. First, let’s talk about those who keep fighting this battle all their lives. Who are they? They are those people who depend on others for their happiness, who think that the control of their happiness is in someone else’s hands. Since very young, they have learnt to search for happiness in the wrong places. They have put their hopes on other people or things that cannot give it. They keep asking their heart all the time, “Who will make me happy?” but they do not realize the hard truth that nothing and nobody can make us truly either happy or unhappy. No one can define someone’s happiness until that person wants it themselves, and wanting that is complete foolishness, it is being unfaithful to yourself, it is being cruel to your own self. We should never give anyone so much power that with their words or actions they can crush our happiness and leave. This power belongs to you, and you have to keep it safe yourself, for your own peace. Happiness comes later, first comes the peace of your own self. Keep this peace strong. Do not depend your smile or your happiness on others. Because by doing so, you will prove to be cruel to your own self, and this will be the regret of your old age. Besides being a choice and a decision, happiness is also a promise, a promise we make to ourselves first. It does not depend on what happens around us. The biggest problem is that when we try to find it outside, we are surely going in the wrong direction. Be the reason for your own happiness. Find the right way, and always remember that the right way and right direction are what your heart tells you, not what others say.
Now let’s move on to other people, those who win the battle yet still lose. And who are they? They are the ones who, in trying to find their own happiness, destroy the peace of others, who just for fun ruin someone else’s happiness and peace completely, whose few words fall on another’s heart like arrows. There are some people in this world who can’t stand to see others happy. They find comfort in breaking the smiles and peace that are not theirs. Such people have emptiness in their hearts and try to fill it by hurting others. They talk sweetly, but their actions quietly hurt the joy of people around them. Instead of spreading light, they spread sadness, turning every smile into a shadow. But they forget one truth, taking away someone’s happiness never brings peace. The pain they give always comes back to them, and in the end, they are left alone with the same sadness they once gave to others.
That is why we should always try to be a reason for someone else’s happiness and joy. Never try to hurt anyone. Be the reason behind someone’s smile. If today you make someone smile, tomorrow that smile will come back to you.
At the end, I would say what I believe, being happy is achieved by removing the choice of being unhappy and by doing something positive instead. Happiness cannot be directly chased. All our efforts to find happiness directly always fail. We can search for and get many things, shelter, food, knowledge, and money, but not happiness. Happiness is the result of a balanced, peaceful, and joyful state of mind.
We live life only once. Stay happy, because you are your own healer. Fight, because it is about your own peace and happiness. Smile, because you are you, a reason for the happiness of others.
