April Fool

(Syed Manazir-ul-Haq, karachi)

A cursing / bad habit of our nation is that they take over some traditions and characters of foreign heads as blind followers without considering their harmful effects. The objective might be to prove themselves bright minded and at par of the west. Regrettable thing is that we want to adopt this bad deeds and traditions in abreasting way whereas their prime characteristics / qualities i.e. perspiration labour, desire of knowledge, honesty and patriotism do not attract us or neither we have a willing to adopt those traits which once our heir. References to Valentine Day and Basent debates are often conducted on media and the clique of celebrating these customs and traditions offer arguments in a deeply senseless way though majority of them at all do not know the historical perspective of these customs and traditions. Here the debating subject is neither Basant nor Valentine Day, nor the purpose to tell their historical perspective but to highlight briefly the disadvantages of the custom like “April Fool”.

The April fool that is celebrated on 1st April each year the essence from where this custom did emerge and what the historical perspective of it is not known. Here this debate is neglected as the purpose of it is to put light on its disadvantages and negative effects in brief.

In each year on 1st April people become happy by making fool to each others and in this context this day is attributed to “April Fool”. This day is merely for amusement and play for many people. But in each year in the whole world thousands of people become prey of this cruel and bloody custom. In this occasion this example becomes true. “Someone died you lied”. In 1st April the celebrators of April Fool try to make people fool on the pretext of April and if they succeed in their motion they become delight. For example a news of hospitalization of an injured person in an accident to his mother or his wife or like this a death news resulting in an accident to anyone of his dear through phone or e-mail – and if the receiver of a news is off from April Fool such like joke becomes very critical as sometimes he runs to the hospital also on account of confusion sometimes faces accident resulting serious injuries or death. Upon several people the death news of their relatives falls like power shock and they lose the hearts consequently either they die or become a cardiac patient for the whole life.

The so-called April Fool Bearers who are our country-men must consider its catastrophe besides contemplate its ethical evils owing to which we are accustomed to this festival for example lie and deceiving whether it is made on joke it has been sternly prohibited in our religion.

Besides, torturing and teasing a lie also is prohibited and sin which many of us commit by giving the false death news about someone to his relative on 1st April. Many individuals and other people having made others fool make fun of them whereas Allah Almighty has forbidden making fun of others.

All the deeds mentioned above come under the purview of sin and many people among us having indulged in them damage their doomsday and would face stern consequences which melt their skins and tongues in the DAY. We should utterly give up this custom which breeds many ethical and social misdeeds. In this context print and electronic media can play an effective and robust role for healing the deeds and antecedents – but we should not rely on media only it is the responsibility of each person amongst us to make familiar to the people with the negative effects of this custom and persuade them to avoid this custom and habit at all.

In our society many transgressions and wrong doings are also prevailing for the reasons that we keep silence having seen multitude sins as we are not the reformer of the society or the superintendent of God whereas “Amer Bilmaa-roof and Nahi-Annul-munker” the quotation of the Holy Quran stresses on the good deeds and forbid with the evil deeds, is the obligation of each Muslim. Unless each of us fulfils this responsibility in better way and spirit our society will not transform into Islamized society where justice prevails and wrong doers get stern punishment under the hands of Islamic Laws.
