Yade Mazi......
(Syed Haseen Abbas Madani, Karachi)
Few days befor there was an
Article "Lalookhait se Liaquatabad" some loving persons have taken interest and
also written comments. Actually we must make a mini Karachi to remember the old
days of Karachi. Most of the European countries have made a mini city for the
tourists to see how it was an old Rotterdam or Belgium, in the east you can see
and old Kuala Lampure in Malaysia. I still remember of old Karachi that the
Tramway was running from Soldier Bazar to Garden Ranchore Line, leamarket and on
the other rout from soldier Bazar to tower(Merrywether Tower). also a branch was
going towards Sadar.
Grumandar was the last habitation and after that Slaughter house in the same
there was Newtown post office New Town Mosque was made after few months of
Independence of Pakistan. The Mosque named Sabeel walee Masjid was built after
Independence in the Lawn of Grumandar.
The last place for the rest of Qaid-e-Azam was a high ground infront of
Grumandar and Parsi colony, and the persons coming from India take their
positions under the shadow of this tomb for Quaid the place called Quaid Abad
aftter word shfted to Landhi, in the grave yard of Quaid Abad there was a grave
of late Seemab Akbar Abady the well known poet who has translated "Masnavi
Maulana Room".
I visited the place after the shifting of Quaid Abad the grave was there but
lately I visited and found no trace of that.
Infront of Central Jail there was a small hill which was the entry of the KECHS.
and on that hill there was a School Happy home which still exists.
KECH Society is at hight from Present Shahrahe-Faisal so the sea water was
comming to this road in the high tide.
The Sea water of Clifton was comming just underneath the kothari parade we just
see a light red construction on the bus stop. Now the water has gone very far.
The Mazar of late Ghazi Abdullah Ushtur Malaki was the only construction in
clifton.
All the Present deffence Area was mostly under Sea water and swampy land. There
was another high place on th korangi road was Agha Khan Sanitorium. This korangi
road was mostly under water during high tide.
Towards Hub river there was the tomb of Late Manghopeer which was very famous
for hot water springs , and in those days the skin deseases were very common in
this area so people were visiting this place to take bath of the hot wter and
they were having healed.
Also in Karachi there was a very serious deseas of eye in which the secreation
was comming out of the eye and hundreds of flies were stuck up to the eye and
man cannot get rid of them. Thanks to Allah after the Spencer Eye Hospital
Leamarket, this desease wiped off from Karachi, mostly the victims of the
desease were living in this area.
In the beginning we were knowing this Karachi as desert area, and due to this we
have eaten lot of sand and had dycentry for long time, also the night blindness,
commonly docter were giving fish oil to take every day on big spoon and it was
cured by this.
Karachi is a big city of this area Insha Alla will write some more some other
time.
