Microsoft Promised to Sell 400 Million Windows Eight Devices Within Nine Months
(Usama Muhammad Noman, Karachi)
Microsoft Windows 8 will
officially launch on 26 October, and Microsoft said that it would sell 400
million devices within 9 months that is by the first July of the next year. This
is a large number to reach and initially seems impossible to reach. Keith
Lorizio, Microsoft’s sales and marketing Vice President of United States of
America has said in an interview with Beet TV that after conservative estimate
we can say that we would make 400 million sales of Windows 8 devices within 9
months.
Microsoft made this statement when they are having not even more than 2,500 apps
in Windows App Store; however, they have also said to increase the number of
applications in the app store by 100,000 in 90 days. Most of the people would be
considering this statement as a useless butter over the bread and some would be
considering a step for the promotion of Windows 8. If they succeed in getting
what they have addressed it would not be less than a magic.
According to figures people are keeping themselves away from new OS. Meanwhile,
Mr. Keith was with logical statement that it would be possible because Microsoft
has “massive distribution”. The fact is that there is a large difference between
distributions and sales, and even larger when you are talking about operating
system specially designed for Tables than traditional PCs.

According to IDC this large number of 400 million Windows 8 devices sales cannot
be achieved even with Smart Phones, because that operating system had a market
share of 3.5% in the second quarter.
Another two reasons for achieving 400 million Windows 8 device sales within 9
months Mr. Keith gave were,
“The new operating system Windows 8 offer same experiences across all devices in
the Microsoft family, not just across the PC, but across mobile, across Xbox,
and across the phone…we’re going to have the same experience for everyone.”
And also because,
“We’re going to have beautiful, relevant, useful ads. All the ads are not going
to be disruptive to the user experience, but integrated, beautiful, relevant and
useful.”
I don’t think that either of three reasons for achieving record sales of 400
million is logical; neither anyone else would agree at these three reasons for
making 400 million sales which seems pretty non-obvious according to stats.
