The most common thing now on this world is, without any doubt “Face book”. Face book has entirely changed the concept of social networking. Things that seemed to be quite complicated are now considered effortless. Its ease of use and variety of applications has made it an international sensation for every walk of life. It has not only caught the attention of the young generation, it has also attracted the people of the generation before them. It has become such an important aspect of our lives; the first question that people usually ask now a days is ”Are you on Face book?”

There is no question of the fact that Face book makes people stay in touch; enabling to reduce the gap between two groups, masses or even individuals. It is a blessing for those who live far apart, and is a convenience for those who are too busy to get together in person as much as they would like. Interactions between people increase, enabling to strengthen the bond of love between them. Humanistic Psychologist Abraham Maslow developed a theory that humans have three basic needs. One of these was the need of love, affection and belongingness. Humans need a sense of self worth and a Face book profile has become the perfect tool for people to let the world know all about their interests, thoughts and their lives.

This global phenomenon has its negative effects too. It can be considered world’s best time killer. Face book begins its journey from being a moderate past time and soon becomes a daily addiction. It becomes too easy to lose large amount of precious time while catching up with friends, playing with its application or taking frivolous quizzes. Then a time comes when a day without Face book is considered to be a year without rain. Therefore, usage increases day by day, with no way to retreat. A person may reduce the number of hours working to cope up with his addiction or a student may decrease his studying hours. This is the reason that the usage of Face book has been banned in educational institutions all over the world.

Face book is indeed an increasingly known phenomenon that is being spread all over the world. It is a medium that aims to trim down the boundaries between different races and cultures, trend and traditions and it would not be of beam to say that it is acting as a bridge connecting the world.

In conclusion, Face book can be defined as “ A virtual world “ and socially acceptable networking for college students and others to connect, share experiences, and meet old friends. It does say some disturbing things about how our society views privacy, personal information, and how our society is adjusting to the age of technology and it brings into question what a generation of Face bookers will deal with the challenges of the real world in person, like career, family and success. It is now dependent on how the social network site is used, that determines its consequences and after affects.
