Culture is very broad term, a
plenty of things are included in it. Culture of a country includes its
traditions, values, customs, trends, arts and religion in case if we take a
broader look. A country or a society is always identified in the world by its
culture and customs. It unites its people and make them happy and peaceful.
We could not deny the importance of Culture for the progress and prosperity of a
country. It provides a platform to the people of a country to be united, humble
and peaceful. Culture is the backbone of any country, if people follow it, the
country will progress, prosper and also become peaceful but if people doesn’t
follow, there would be a big question mark on the future of that country.
I belong to Pakistan and I will talk about its culture and traditions. Pakistan
is a country, rich in culture. A beautiful language, variety of dresses,
different delicious foods, common religion, lively and friendly people,
historical places, religious, regional and national festivals and many more
things.
I would like to share some of the festivals through this forum which are
celebrated in Pakistan. There are many National festivals which Pakistanis
celebrate each year. Pakistan Resolution Day, Independence Day, Defense Day,
Quaid’s Day, Iqbal’s Day, ‘Takbeer’ Day and many more.
These National festivals are the cause which unite Pakistanis and arise
patriotism among them. These days remind them the sacrifices of their ancestors
which they gave for the sacred purpose of creating separate homeland for Muslims
of Subcontinent. These days are cause to arise the passion and enthusiasm among
them.
Pakistan Day is celebrated on every 23rd of March, Independence Day is
celebrated on 14th of August, Defense Day on 6th of September, ‘Takbeer’ Day on
28th of May, Iqbal’s Day on 9th of November and Quaid’s Day on 25th of December.
These days are celebrated each year with great zeal and zest. People of all age
particularly children celebrate these days with great passion, Pakistan flags
are being lifted up high in air in every house and building across the country,
and special programs are displayed on television. There is a public holiday
across the country on all of these National days.
I am feeling very lucky and proud that I am living in the country that was
created on an ideology. Pakistan is created in the name of Islam and more than
97% of population of Pakistan is Muslim. Eid-ul-Fitar, Eid-ul-Azha and Eid
Milad-ul-Nabi are the religious festivals which are celebrated not only in
Pakistan but all over the Muslim world. Different regions of my country have
different culture but one thing is common and that’s religion, Islam which cause
to arise unity, harmony, brotherhood and peace among the people.
Many countries are in the world which follow their own culture and now these
countries are progressing by leaps and bounds. China is one of the biggest
example in front of us. They never put their culture and valves on the back.
Today China is the World’s best economic power due to following their culture
and language. Japan, Italy, France and Iran are the few more examples in front
of us.
Today, we are going through different circumstances, we are facing terrorism
from last two decades, we are ruled by the corrupt rulers, our moralities are
going down and down, and we are far behind in education and many more things.
According to me, possible reasons are that we forgot our culture and moralities.
We are trying to follow the foreign culture and resulting we are not only losing
our identification but the respect too. Our National language is Urdu but why
English is official! We preferred to wear foreign dresses instead of ours. Alas!
Today, our ideals and heroes are foreign film-stars. As Ray Bradbury said,
“You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop
reading them.”
I will close the discussion with the great saying of an unknown person. He said,
“If you want to destroy a Nation, snatch its culture and language, it would
automatically be destroyed.”
