Experience that led to renewed faith
(Abdul Rehman Meer, Islamabad)
A real life story
When I was small, I only knew the Holy Quran is a sacred book. I didn’t know
what the benefits are when one recites the verses regularly. When my mother
taught me the basics of the Holy Quran I increased my interest and started
remembering the short verses from the Holy Quran. She used to tell me everything
about Holy Quran. She told me the blessings of the Holy Quran but I couldn’t pay
much attention.
In the beginning I just crammed up the Surahs to tell my friends that I have
remembered a great deal of verses from the Holy Quran. My mother used to recite
Holy Quran daily before I get up and also got up when I heard the recitation on
my pillow. I didn’t know why my Mom did it regularly.
But as I grew older, I realized that my belief in Allah and the Holy Quran
should not only be for the sake of having people know that I am a Muslim. I
sometimes plunged into doubt that there was nothing in the recitation. Time kept
on passing; I crammed up too many verses from the Holy Quran and used to recite
when offered the obligatory prayers.
The miracles came to view in front of my eyes once I was travelling from
Abbottabad to Rawalpindi in a public coach. I remembered my Mom’s advice to
recite some verses before leaving anywhere. I just recited some verses in my
heart. It was an unconscious effort that I used to do usually.
When the coach was running near Haripur and I was feeling sleepy. The coach was
running fast. Suddenly, it went through a severe accident. I was shock to hear
the cries of the women and children. I was in state of unconsciousness. When I
opened my eyes I could see only blooded people inside and outside of the coach
and it was struck with a heavy 22 wheeler. I was feeling a bit pain as a piece
of glass had stroke my forehead that is still seen on my forehead.
After five to ten minutes when I was dragged out I saw most of the passengers
were died at the spot except two children they were sitting with me. Ten to
fifteen people were severely injured and shifted to hospital in a very bad
condition.
The children when saw me started crying as they had heard me saying the names of
Allah the Almighty on the way. They hugged me and cried for their younger
brother who was sitting on the back seats.
I remembered my Mom and cried but at the same moment I lost my conscious and
fell down. After a few minutes a rescuer supported me and gave a bottle of
mineral water. He told me ‘dear’ be grateful to Allah only three passengers are
saved in this accident, you and the two boys who were sitting with you. I wept
too much and again hugged those boys.
When reached home in Rawalpindi, I couldn’t tell it to anyone. I met my aunt who
had come back from Haj. After a while they could feel my worries then I told
them everything that happened that evening.
During night I made ablution and laid the prayer mat. I offered my prayers and
then also offered some supplications as well. At the end I cried in state of
prostration and thanked to Allah for bestowing me a new life. I adopted Tauba
and promised Allah that I would recite the Holy Quran with understating. Today I
am really grateful to Allah Who bestowed me everything I prayed.
To sum up, I suggest you all to revitalize you belief in Allah and the Holy
Quran. Quran has everything in it but we can’t imagine how it shows its
miracles. Life and death are the expediency of Allah the Almighty, we can’t
reject them at all but this experience taught me an unforgettable lesson in my
life.
