Death is Unexpected
(Mûhåmmåð Årslåñ Îlyäs., Karachi,Pakistan)
A call wakes me up in the
middle of the night. Comfortably lying on the bed, I receive the phone call. I
am pleased to hear my mother's voice from the other side. "Mom, how are you? Is
everything okay? You are calling me so late...Mom, you there?”
I am now afraid as the rumbling of thunder and the howling of wind is the only
sound I can hear on the phone. "Mom, Mom," I shout again and again. She finally
replies in a trembling voice, "Son." She is just repeating my name. I try to ask
her where she is and how she is but she is unable to say anything. The only
sound is of heavy showers of rain as if a gigantic train is approaching at an
immensely high speed. I can hear the tree branches lashing against the windows
of the house.
The thing that is threatening me the most is the creaking of the roof of the
house. But …now it’s over… the rattling of the roof and my mother's last words,
"Ahmed, I love you, take care and remember me." There is nothing I can do now
except wipe the beads of tears rolling down my cheeks.
Death is very unexpected and unpredictable. We can lose our precious relations
anytime and our parents are the blessings of Allah Almighty. We should always
take care of them, respect them, love them and support them in every way
possible so when we lose them, we don't regret not taking care of them and not
ensuring paradise for ourselves in the Hereafter.
