Typography literally means “The
type setting for visual presentation”. It is the use of words, letters and
combination of both in order to produce a textual design. The composition of the
text is either abstract or having a specific meaning. The arrangement of
typographic design involves the selection of fonts, the size of the letters,
line-length, line-spacing, letter-spacing, color of the font, its form (regular,
italic, underlined, bold) as well as the spacing within letters. Typefaces can
be designed in any language (English, Urdu or Arabic) depending on which
language is most understandable of the readers. The combination of multiple
languages can also be easily composed to produce a creative visual art.
Typography is basically modified by linguistics, word constructions, morphology,
phonetic theories. word frequencies and syntax.
In graphic designs and animations, the typography plays a vital role. It is used
to teach, inform or either add to the theme of the whole art piece. The
designers and artists take a keen look in choosing and utilizing the typography
that should be tied to the theme or the idea. Any viewer can read and understand
the text that is written on the visual medium as it conveys the message to them.
The text is composed in such a way that it should be readable, coherent,
understandable and visually satisfying the reader. Choosing a typeface (text
style) is of primary importance as it should reflect the idea that can be
fictional, non-fictional, educational, religious, technical, mystical or
commercial. Typography is used in a wide variety of situations, like:
Documentation, Presentations, Clothing, Maps, Labels, Vehicle’s panels,
household appliances, stationery, wristwatches, movies, Book covers, Trademarks,
and graphic art form.
Typography has become a major element of communication in different media forms.
All the designs are now produce keeping a goal in mind to use a convincing and
right typeface to be able to communicate the message to the audiences.
