Inequal Treatment With Minorities
(Manzoor Hussain , Karachi)
One of the core problems
affecting development and growth of Pakistan is unequal treatment with denizens
of Pakistan. There is not a single country where one religion, one sect, or one
class of people live. You will find blend of different culture in every society
or country. Islam is the religion of peace and harmony. Its teachings tell us to
live with love and affection with each other. Not only this but in the times of
Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) the real examples were also set. People were
very happy to live in such societies because they were equally treated.
The dilemma is that in our country minorities are swamped at a vast quantity.
Either it may be Hindus or Christians, Muslim minorities in sects or minorities
in relation to ethnic group, the thumb rule of Might Is Right is followed.
Recently you must have heard about the unwelcomed conversions in Sindh. The
voices were rising for unfairness from the Hindu community. I don’t know to what
extent the grievances were right but know one thing that past history shows that
the minorities’ rights are disregarded and our state has been failed to shelter
them.
Hindus are old inhabitants of Pakistan and they didn’t leave these parts at the
time of separation due to their strong adore for the land. This is quite
injustice that our laws and so called Muslim righteous people have always left
them helpless. From years Hindus are charged in various ways, like kidnapping
for ransom, theft of their money, illegal attempts to achieve their properties,
etc. but recent act of coerced conversions is quite regrettable. In interior
Sindh kidnapping of Hindus for ransom is common offense.
I would like to quote here that 3 years ago a renowned psychiatrists/ OV
Neurologist at Hira Medical Centre Sukkur was also threatened to pay a huge
amount of ransom. In the result, Doctor left the country fortnight to save his
life and his family. Due to belonging to Hindu community doctor felt so insecure
that he took very difficult step. The brutal offenders played with their own
fate. Doctor’s treatment was so triumphant in his patients that people believed
that He was a seraph who was serving the humanity. The poor doctor was an asset
to the society and we didn’t realize his worth. So there are lots of such
examples which you will find that are happening from some decades.
History is evident that these deprived people have always faced difficulties
here. They are hard working and commendable class. Religion is the most
sensitive thing and no one will tolerate the nuisance of pressurized conversion
at any cost. Islam prohibits from such acts. These 2.5% of our population are
patriotic people; please let them breathe here with tranquility and do not
compel them to be treacherous.
