Life is not a bed of roses
(Abdul Rehman Mir, Islamabad)
Today, he met me after eight
years. First he smiled and then observed me from head to the feet. He laughed at
me and said; Ullu I don't believe it's you. I kept silent and passed a smile and
asked him why he was laughing. He said; I never saw you in such a poignant mood.
You were the happiest guy i ever met in my life, you used to console me when i
was sad due to my problems. You used to make others very happy but what have you
done with your appearance. I was very happy to see your photos on FB but here is
just a skeleton with a bald head.
Yar you never look like a varsity teacher in such mood. Suddenly, he stopped
speaking and looked at me and wiped the three drops of tears shedding from my
eyes. Any how is everything alright in life? I think you are sick or, tensed due
to career? He said. Listen; if you don't share the reasons of such spell in your
life, i would never go back abroad. Yar, By God I am here just for you, I shall
never forget how would you help me when i was in difficulty. Warna me nay
Islamabad ana he nahi tha. I came here to surprise you but you made me dejected.
I changed my mood and brought a disguised happiness on my face and said; ar kuch
kahna hy? Yar nothing happened with me. It is just because of the hot weather
and the tough routine. By the way, what would you like to have? He said; Ullu
tmhen abi b lagta hy mere pass pesy nahi? I laughed laughed and laughed and said
Kanjoos.
The table was fully decorated with variety of food. He pointed towards a spicy
flesh and asked me to take. I hardly could eat half of the that food. He
sarcastically said; hey I am sure I will pay the bill so take your meal without
any tension. We both laughed jovially. He said; we have a very short life so
take a chill pill ar khaya piya karo. It was a very nice lunch with him. I found
him a totally changed person with newly adopted dressing, impression and
personality. Time changes the people.
