“How to Make Dad Happy
This Father's Day!” |
|
Father's day is summed in this; for one day out of the year make your dad
feel like he is the best dad in the whole wide world. |
|
"Father's day" was first proposed there were no Father's Day cards! Mrs.
John B. Dodd, of Washington, first proposed the idea of a "father's day" in
1909. Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart.
William Smart, a Civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife (Mrs. Dodd's
mother) died in childbirth with their sixth child. Himself left Mr. Smart to
raise the newborn and his five other children on a rural farm in eastern
Washington State. It was after Ms. Dodd became an adult that she realized
the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children
as a single parent.
The fifth biblical commandment instructs us to, and I quote, "To
honor/respect your mother and your father that your days may be long..." I
agree with this statement because as a child, I always knew that
disrespecting my dad would definitely shorten my life expectancy. Honoring
someone might be the equivalent of placing a crown on their head, or bowing
at their feet, or even parading them through the streets yelling out, "This
guy is the man and you would do well to respect him!" To me, Father's day is
summed in this; for one day out of the year make your dad feel like he is
the best dad in the whole wide world! Here are some ways I feel like you can
help to make that happen for you dad this year! |
Make your dad breakfast in bed! This is a great one if you live away from
home! You can also take him out to breakfast if your cooking is that bad.
Buy him the nicest and most powerful looking
watch he would never buy for himself because it was too expensive!
Take dad out to the movies! You know that new Indiana Jones flick is out,
nudge! I took my dad to see Batman Begins a few years back for Father's day,
he's still talking about it! Even if you're short on funds you can just
spend the day on the couch watching some of His favorite movies with him and
telling him how much you love that part when...
You're the best! Pay tribute to your dad with his very own My Space page!
Make sure to spend some time decorating it and arranging it for him. Take
some time to show him how to navigate the site and put it in his favorites
so he'll be able to find it easily. Explain it to him as a way to
communicate with you when you are away. Also, be sure to already be a friend
on his page wishing him a Happy Father's Day!
Throw him a big party and invite all the family over! Be sure to deliver a
really sappy speech and make a toast to the best dad in the whole wide
world!
