Mysteries are fascinating. Our
Earth is full of mystical, mysterious and magical places that defy explanation.
Treasures yet to be found, architecture we don’t understand and phenomena that
need an explanation ...
Pyramids and the Sphinx:
The Pyramids are the oldest structures on Earth. They contain evidence that the
civilization was far more advanced than ours, though it existed thousands of
years before the Great Flood. With their original exteriors, they could
probably, be seen from the moon!
The Sphinx, in Arabic known, as Abu-Al-Hol or ‘Father of Fear’ is a cat-like
structure carved out of a single block of stone and continues to mesmerize
millions of people from all around the world.
Crop Circles:
Crop circles are one of the most profound and mysterious phenomena of the modern
age. Are they a communication from extra-terrestrials? Or is it man-made?
The term is used to describe patterns created in the soil by the flattening of
crops like wheat, barley, canola, rye, corn, linseed and soy.
Probably the most scientific theory says that small currents of swirling winds
called vortices create crop circles. The spinning columns force a burst of air
down to the ground, which flattens the crops.
Bermuda Triangle:
Some people believe that the laws of physics don’t apply in the Bermuda
Triangle. Your compass won’t point to the North and over the years hundreds of
ships and planes have gone missing in the area of the Atlantic Ocean between
Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Fort Lauderdale.
One explanation could be large pockets of gas, which are common on the sea bed
in the area. On the other hand, some feel a sort of strangeness as they enter
this area like a calling from other lands, a place where the past and future
meets, the gateway to another world or maybe even Atlantis.
Atlantis:
Is it a figment of philosopher Plato’s imagination or a real civilization
destroyed by an earthquake? Legend has it that Atlantis was an island, probably
somewhere in the Mediterranean, which was destroyed by either an earthquake or a
tsunami.
The Greek philosopher, Plato, first mentioned it about 2,400 years ago; who said
it had disappeared around 9,000 years before his time. It is said that Atlantis
was a land of great beauty, home to an advanced civilization with untold wealth.
Stonehenge:
A circular setting of large stones is where the mystery surrounds. Stonehenge
was probably built around 2200 BC. This ancient monument is of huge, rough-cut
stones standing alone on the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England. No one knows
exactly who placed them there or why. Speculation ranges from human sacrifice to
astronomy.
Altamira Caves:
The Altamira Caves, in Cantabria, Northern Spain is so special because there are
amazing drawings that cover the walls and ceiling.
The drawings, of animals, have been made between 16,500 and 14,000 years ago.
They are incredible because of their skillful use of colour and in some places
the artist has used the natural contours of the rock to give the images a 3-D
quality.
Loch Ness:
For centuries myths have circulated about the monster, which is said to live in
the depths of Loch Ness in Scotland. Sightings of Nessie, as she is
affectionately called, date back 1,500 years. One explanation is that Nessie is
a dinosaur that somehow escaped extinction!
