Are You Not Corrupt?
(Habib Ganchvi, Islamabad)
As a nation, we Pakistanis are
involved in a variety of social evils that overwhelms our individual and
collective lives.
The evils of favoritism lie and bribery seems to be so unimportant but is the
main causes of the gigantic and serious existing problems that the society is
facing. It is evident from the practice of developed nation that they seriously
abide by the law of their country. They perform their duties well and fight for
their just rights without exceeding for the spheres of prevalent norms and
existing rules of the state.
The people are so conscious that they reform the ruling elites from the breach
of law of the land in any sort. The ruling class is also well aware that their
wrong politics and unjust decisions will affect them adversely.
Being a nation, we do not respect the laws and rules of our own country. We
literary deny all the rules while protesting, burn our own assets and destroy
the public properties without any hesitation. We put the lives of our own
citizens in turbulence.
At times, we observe an uncivilized behavior in the display of our own emotions.
We tear the law of our land into pieces while the exposition of our interest to
extent that we are not hesitant to endanger the lives of our citizens. We
Pakistanis are present a picture of extreme brutality on such occasions which is
not a part of our civilization.
People leave no chance to blame our rulers for their financial mismanagement
manhandling / embezzlement and promotion of favoritism. Moreover, same time we
forget that this ruling elite has gained this status just because of the right
of vote that we have availed. We put aside our national interest for our petty
gains and thus deny the deserving and able candidate that is because we are not
using our right of vote wisely and honestly. We are creating obstacles in our
own way, spreading thorns at our own path where we ought to step with bare feet.
We are setting the future of our nation at stake by evasion of our
responsibilities and by being unjust and dishonest to our ruler. We grant the
sword as license to kill us and then complain that they are killing us
ruthlessly.
Much prudence is required to decide that who is corrupt in this whole episode,
we are or our rulers?
From the preliminary stage of admitting our child into school, bribring the
government officials for our interests, to the evasion of challan fee of traffic
police. We are promoting the corruption our selves. We our selves give money to
the little children generously transporting their habits from habitual to
professional beggars and this professional beggar in turn indulges himself into
the serious crimes and other social evils prevalent in our society. Presenting
expensive gifts to higher officials is also a common form of bribery. We are the
initiators and the promoters of corruption. We complain about others but the
wrong doers are our self. Instead of blaming others, we need to pursue that no
one except us is responsible for the major social evils that are extending their
space in our society…
