Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Laila said: Zaid bin Arqam would say four Takbir for our funerals. (Once) he said five Takbir for a funeral so we asked him about that and he said: 'The Messenger of Allah would say those Takbir.'

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ يُكَبِّرُ عَلَى جَنَائِزِنَا أَرْبَعًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّهُ كَبَّرَ عَلَى جَنَازَةٍ خَمْسًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَسَأَلْنَاهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُكَبِّرُهَا . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ ذَهَبَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ إِلَى هَذَا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَغَيْرِهِمْ رَأَوْا التَّكْبِيرَ عَلَى الْجَنَازَةِ خَمْسًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ أَحْمَدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِسْحَاق:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا كَبَّرَ الْإِمَامُ عَلَى الْجَنَازَةِ خَمْسًا فَإِنَّهُ يُتَّبَعُ الْإِمَامُ.

عبدالرحمٰن بن ابی لیلیٰ کہتے ہیں کہ   زید بن ارقم ہمارے جنازوں پر چار تکبیریں کہتے تھے۔ انہوں نے ایک جنازے پر پانچ تکبیریں کہیں ہم نے ان سے اس کی وجہ پوچھی، تو انہوں نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایسا بھی کہتے تھے ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- زید بن ارقم کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- صحابہ کرام وغیرہم میں سے بعض اہل علم اسی طرف گئے ہیں۔ ان کا خیال ہے کہ جنازے میں پانچ تکبیریں ہیں، ۳- احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ کہتے ہیں: جب امام جنازے میں پانچ تکبیریں کہے تو امام کی پیروی کی جائے ( یعنی مقتدی بھی پانچ کہیں ) ۔
