Ikrimah narrated from Ibn Abbas that : a man said: O Messenger of Allah! My mother died, will it benefit her if I give charity on her behalf? He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'I have a Makhraf, so bear witness that I have given it in charity on her behalf.'

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ إِسْحَاق، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّ أُمِّي تُوُفِّيَتْ أَفَيَنْفَعُهَا إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَإِنَّ لِي مَخْرَفًا فَأُشْهِدُكَ أَنِّي قَدْ تَصَدَّقْتُ بِهِ عَنْهَا . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُونَ:‏‏‏‏ لَيْسَ شَيْءٌ يَصِلُ إِلَى الْمَيِّتِ إِلَّا الصَّدَقَةُ وَالدُّعَاءُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رَوَى بَعْضُهُمْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُرْسَلًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَعْنَى قَوْلِهِ إِنَّ لِي مَخْرَفًا يَعْنِي:‏‏‏‏ بُسْتَانًا.

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ   ایک شخص نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! میری والدہ فوت ہو چکی ہیں، اگر میں ان کی طرف سے صدقہ کروں تو کیا یہ ان کے لیے مفید ہو گا؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”ہاں“، اس نے عرض کیا: میرا ایک باغ ہے، آپ گواہ رہئیے کہ میں نے اسے والدہ کی طرف سے صدقہ میں دے دیا۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- بعض لوگوں نے یہ حدیث بطریق «عن عمرو بن دينار عن عكرمة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم» مرسلاً روایت کی ہے، ۳- اور یہی اہل علم بھی کہتے ہیں کہ کوئی چیز ایسی نہیں ہے جو میت کو پہنچتی ہو سوائے صدقہ اور دعا کے ۱؎، ۴- «إن لي مخرفا» میں «مخرفاً» سے مراد باغ ہے۔
