Narrated `Abdullah: The Prophet said, The people of my generation are the best, then those who follow them, and then whose who follow the latter. After that there will come some people whose witness will go ahead of their oaths, and their oaths will go ahead of their witness. Ibrahim (a sub-narrator) said, We used to be beaten for taking oaths by saying, 'I bear witness by the Name of Allah or by the Covenant of Allah.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : خَيْرُ النَّاسِ قَرْنِي ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ يَجِيءُ أَقْوَامٌ تَسْبِقُ شَهَادَةُ أَحَدِهِمْ يَمِينَهُ وَيَمِينُهُ شَهَادَتَهُ . قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ : وَكَانُوا يَضْرِبُونَنَا عَلَى الشَّهَادَةِ وَالْعَهْدِ .

ہم سے محمد بن کثیر نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم کو سفیان نے خبر دی منصور سے، انہوں نے ابراہیم نخعی سے، انہیں عبیدہ نے اور ان سے عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ   نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”سب سے بہتر میرے زمانہ کے لوگ ہیں، پھر وہ لوگ جو اس کے بعد ہوں گے، پھر وہ لوگ جو اس کے بعد ہوں گے اور اس کے بعد ایسے لوگوں کا زمانہ آئے گا جو قسم سے پہلے گواہی دیں گے اور گواہی سے پہلے قسم کھائیں گے۔“ ابراہیم نخعی رحمہ اللہ نے بیان کیا کہ ہمارے بڑے بزرگ شہادت اور عہد کا لفظ زبان سے نکالنے پر ہمیں مارتے تھے۔
