حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي عُرْوَةُ ، أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيَّ ، حَدَّثَاهُ أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَكِيمٍ ، يَقْرَأُ : سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ فِي حَيَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَاسْتَمَعْتُ لِقِرَاءَتِهِ ، فَإِذَا هُوَ يَقْرَأُ عَلَى حُرُوفٍ كَثِيرَةٍ لَمْ يُقْرِئْنِيهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَكِدْتُ أُسَاوِرُهُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ، فَتَصَبَّرْتُ حَتَّى سَلَّمَ فَلَبَبْتُهُ بِرِدَائِهِ ، فَقُلْتُ : مَنْ أَقْرَأَكَ هَذِهِ السُّورَةَ الَّتِي سَمِعْتُكَ تَقْرَأُ ؟ ، قَالَ : أَقْرَأَنِيهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : كَذَبْتَ أَقْرَأَنِيهَا عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا قَرَأْتَ ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ بِهِ أَقُودُهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ هَذَا يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ عَلَى حُرُوفٍ لَمْ تُقْرِئْنِيهَا ، فَقَالَ : أَرْسِلْهُ اقْرَأْ يَا هِشَامُ ، فَقَرَأَ الْقِرَاءَةَ الَّتِي سَمِعْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : كَذَلِكَ أُنْزِلَتْ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : اقْرَأْ يَا عُمَرُ ، فَقَرَأْتُ الَّتِي أَقْرَأَنِي ، فَقَالَ : كَذَلِكَ أُنْزِلَتْ إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ .

Urdu Translation

ہم سے یحییٰ بن بکیر نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے لیث بن سعد نے بیان کیا، ان سے عقیل نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابن شہاب نے، کہا مجھ سے عروہ بن زبیر نے بیان کیا، ان سے مسور بن مخرمہ اور عبدالرحمٰن بن عبدالقاری نے، ان دونوں نے عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا، انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ   میں نے ہشام بن حکیم رضی اللہ عنہ کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی زندگی میں سورۃ الفرقان پڑھتے سنا۔ میں نے دیکھا کہ وہ قرآن مجید بہت سے ایسے طریقوں سے پڑھ رہے تھے جو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں نہیں پڑھائے تھے۔ قریب تھا کہ نماز ہی میں ان پر میں ہلہ کر دوں لیکن میں نے صبر سے کام لیا اور جب انہوں نے سلام پھیرا تو میں نے ان کی گردن میں اپنی چادر کا پھندا لگا دیا اور ان سے کہا تمہیں یہ سورت اس طرح کس نے پڑھائی جسے میں نے ابھی تم سے سنا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ مجھے اس طرح رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پڑھائی ہے۔ میں نے کہا تم جھوٹے ہو، مجھے خود نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس سے مختلف قرآت سکھائی ہے جو تم پڑھ رہے تھے۔ چنانچہ میں انہیں کھینچتا ہوا نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس لے گیا اور عرض کیا کہ میں نے اس شخص کو سورۃ الفرقان اس طرح پڑھتے سنا جو آپ نے مجھے نہیں سکھائی۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ انہیں چھوڑ دو۔ ہشام! تم پڑھ کر سناؤ۔ انہوں نے وہی قرآت پڑھی جو میں ان سے سن چکا تھا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ اسی طرح یہ سورت نازل ہوئی ہے۔ اے عمر! اب تم پڑھو! میں نے اس قرآت کے مطابق پڑھا جو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے سکھائی تھی۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ اس طرح بھی نازل ہوئی ہے۔ یہ قرآن عرب کی سات بولیوں پر اتارا گیا ہے۔ پس تمہیں جس قرآت میں سہولت ہو پڑھو۔

English Translation

Narrated `Umar bin Al-Khattab: I heard Hisham bin Hakim reciting Surat-al-Furqan during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle, I listened to his recitation and noticed that he was reciting in a way that Allah's Apostle had not taught me. I was about to jump over him while He was still in prayer, but I waited patiently and when he finished his prayer, I put my sheet round his neck (and pulled him) and said, Who has taught you this Sura which I have heard you reciting? Hisham said, Allah's Apostle taught it to me. I said, You are telling a lie, for he taught it to me in a way different from the way you have recited it! Then I started leading (dragged) him to Allah's Apostle and said (to the Prophet), I have heard this man reciting Surat-al- Furqan in a way that you have not taught me. The Prophet said: (O `Umar) release him! Recite, O Hisham. Hisham recited in the way I heard him reciting. Allah's Apostle said, It was revealed like this. Then Allah's Apostle said, Recite, O `Umar! I recited in the way he had taught me, whereupon he said, It was revealed like this, and added, The Qur'an has been revealed to be recited in seven different ways, so recite of it whichever is easy for you .
