Mu'adha asked 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) how many rak'ahs Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) prayed at the forenoon prayer. She replied: Four rak'ahs, but sometimes more as he pleased.

حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي الرِّشْكَ حَدَّثَتْنِي مُعَاذَةُ أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا كَمْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الضُّحَى قَالَتْ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ وَيَزِيدُ مَا شَاءَُ

  عبدالوارث نے کہا : ہمیں یزید رشک نے حدیث سنائی ، انھوں نے کہا ، مجھے معاذہ نے حدیث سنائی ، انھوں نے حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے سوال کیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم چاشت کی نماز کتنی ( رکعتیں ) پڑھتے تھے؟انھوں نے جواب دیا چار رکعتیں اور جس قدر زیادہ پڑھنا چاہتے ( پڑھ لیتے ) ۔
