حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ح و حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ تَعَاهَدُوا هَذِهِ الْمَصَاحِفَ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ الْقُرْآنَ فَلَهُوَ أَشَدُّ تَفَصِّيًا مِنْ صُدُورِ الرِّجَالِ مِنْ النَّعَمِ مِنْ عُقُلِهِ قَالَ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَقُلْ أَحَدُكُمْ نَسِيتُ آيَةَ كَيْتَ وَكَيْتَ بَلْ هُوَ نُسِّيَ

Urdu Translation

  اعمش نے شفیق بن سلمہ سے روا یت کی انھوں نے کہا ۔ حضرت عبد اللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کہا ان مصاحف ۔ ۔ اور کبھی کہا : قرآن ۔ ۔ کے ساتھ تجدید عہد کرتے رہا کرو کیونکہ وہ انسانوں کے سینوں سے بھا گ جا نے میں اپنے پاؤں کی رسیوں سے نکل بھاگنے والے اونٹوں سے بھی بڑھ کر ہے کہا : اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فر ما یا ہے ۔ " تم میں سے کسی کو یہ نہیں کہنا چا ہیے کہ میں فلا ں فلا ں آیت بھول گیا ہوں بلکہ اسے بھلوا دیا گیا ہے ۔

English Translation

Abdullah is reported to have said: Keep refreshing your knowledge of the sacred books (or always renew your knowledge of these sacred books) and sometimes he would mention the Qur'an for it is more apt to escape from men's minds than animals which are hobbled, and the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: None of you should say: I forgot such and such a verse, but he has been made to forget.
