Jabir b Samura reported that the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) commanded us to observe fast on the day of Ashura and exhorted us to do it and was particular about it But when (fasting) in Ramadan was made obligatory, he hence. forth neither commanded us nor forbade us, nor was he so particular about it.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، أَخْبَرَنَا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْمُرُنَا بِصِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ، وَيَحُثُّنَا عَلَيْهِ، وَيَتَعَاهَدُنَا عِنْدَهُ، فَلَمَّا فُرِضَ رَمَضَانُ، لَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا، وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا وَلَمْ يَتَعَاهَدْنَا عِنْدَهُ»

  ابو بکر ابن ابی شیبہ ، عبیداللہ بن موسیٰ ، شیبان ، اشعث بن ابی شعشاء ، جعفر بن ابی ثور ، حضرت جابر بن سمرۃ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ فرمایا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم عاشورہ کے دن ر وزہ رکھنے کا حکم فرماتے تھے اور ہمیں اس پر آمادہ کرتے تھے اور اس کا اہتمام کرتے تھے تو جب رمضان کے روزے فرض کردیئے گئے تو پھر آپ نہ ہمیں اس کا حکم فرماتے اور نہ اس سے منع فرماتے اور نہ ہی اسکا اہتمام فرماتے ۔
