This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Sufyan and the words are: We could not afford to eat to the fill even dates and water.

و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَشْجَعِيُّ ح و حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ كِلَاهُمَا عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِي حَدِيثِهِمَا عَنْ سُفْيَانَ وَمَا شَبِعْنَا مِنْ الْأَسْوَدَيْنِ

  ( عبید اللہ بن عبد الرحمٰن ) اشجعی اور ابو احمد دونوں نے سفیان سے اسی سند کے ساتھ حدیث بیان کی مگر ان دونوں کی سفیان سے مروی حدیث میں ہے ۔ ( آپ تشریف لے گئے ) جبکہ ( ابھی ) ہم دوسیاہ چیزیں ( پانی اور کھجور ) بھی پیٹ بھر کے نہیں کھاتے تھے ۔
