حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْقُرَشِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ حَدَّثَهُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا فَرَجُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي ثَابِتُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ سَعِيدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبْيَضَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَبْيَضَ بْنِ حَمَّالٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ كَلَّمَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الصَّدَقَةِ حِينَ وَفَدَ عَلَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَخَا سَبَأٍ لَابُدَّ مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا زَرَعْنَا الْقُطْنَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَقَدْ تَبَدَّدَتْ سَبَأٌ وَلَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ بِمَأْرِبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَصَالَحَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى سَبْعِينَ حُلَّةً بَزٍّ مِنْ قِيمَةِ وَفَاءِ بَزِّ الْمَعَافِرِ كُلَّ سَنَةٍ عَمَّنْ بَقِيَ مِنْ سَبَأٍ بِمَأْرِبَ فَلَمْ يَزَالُوا يَؤُدُّونَهَا حَتَّى قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّ الْعُمَّالَ انْتَقَضُوا عَلَيْهِمْ بَعْدَ قَبْضِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيمَا صَالَحَ أَبْيَضُ بْنُ حَمَّالٍ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْحُلَلِ السَّبْعِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَرَدَّ ذَلِكَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَلَى مَا وَضَعَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى مَاتَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ انْتَقَضَ ذَلِكَ وَصَارَتْ عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ.

Urdu Translation

ابیض بن حمال رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   جب وہ وفد میں شامل ہو کر رسول اللہ کے پاس آئے تو آپ سے صدقے کے متعلق بات چیت کی، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اے سبائی بھائی! ( سبا یمن کے ایک شہر کا نام ہے ) صدقہ دینا تو ضروری ہے ، ابیض بن حمال نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! ہماری زراعت تو صرف کپاس ( روئی ) ہے، ( سبا اب پہلے والا سبا نہیں رہا ) سبا والے متفرق ہو گئے ( یعنی وہ شہر اور وہ آبادی اب نہیں رہی جو پہلے بلقیس کے زمانہ میں تھی، اب تو بالکل اجاڑ ہو گیا ہے ) اب کچھ تھوڑے سے سبا کے باشندے مارب ( ایک شہر کا نام ہے ) میں رہ رہے ہیں، تو نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان سے ہر سال کپڑے کے ایسے ستر جوڑے دینے پر مصالحت کر لی جو معافر ۱؎ کے ریشم کے جوڑے کی قیمت کے برابر ہوں، وہ لوگ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی وفات تک برابر یہ جوڑے ادا کرتے رہے، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے انتقال کے بعد عمال نے رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ابیض بن حمال سے سال بہ سال ستر جوڑے دیتے رہنے کے معاہدے کو توڑ دیا، پھر ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے سال میں ستر جوڑے دئیے جانے کے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے اس حکم کو دوبارہ جاری کر دیا، پھر جب ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کا انتقال ہوا تو یہ معاہدہ بھی ٹوٹ گیا اور ان سے بھی ویسے ہی صدقہ لیا جانے لگا جیسے دوسروں سے لیا جاتا تھا۔

English Translation

Narrated Abyad ibn Hammal: Abyad spoke to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم about sadaqah when he came along with a deputation to him. He replied: O brother of Saba', sadaqah is unavoidable. He said: We cultivated cotton, Messenger of Allah. The people of Saba' scattered, and there remained only a few at Ma'arib. He therefore concluded a treaty of peace with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم to give seventy suits of cloth, equivalent to the price of the Yemeni garments known as al-mu'afir, to be paid every year on behalf of those people of Saba' who remained at Ma'arib. They continued to pay them till the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم died. The governors after the death of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم broke the treaty concluded by Abyad by Hammal with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم to give seventy suits of garments. Abu Bakr then revived it as the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم had done till Abu Bakr died. When Abu Bakr died, it was discontinued and the sadaqah was levied.
