حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا خُصَيْفٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا مِقْسَمٌ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا:‏‏‏‏ نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَا كَانَ لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَغُلَّ سورة آل عمران آية 161 فِي قَطِيفَةٍ حَمْرَاءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فُقِدَتْ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ بَعْضُ النَّاسِ:‏‏‏‏ لَعَلّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخَذَهَا فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَا كَانَ لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَغُلَّ سورة آل عمران آية 161 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ يَغُلَّ مَفْتُوحَةُ الْيَاءِ.

مقسم مولیٰ ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کا بیان ہے کہ   ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا ہے کہ آیت: «وما كان لنبي أن يغل» نبی کو یہ زیب نہیں دیتا کہ وہ خیانت کرے۔۔۔ ( سورۃ آل عمران: ۱۶۱ ) ایک سرخ چادر کے متعلق نازل ہوئی جو بدر کے دن گم ہو گئی تھی تو کچھ لوگوں نے کہا: شاید رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اسے لے لیا ہو تب اللہ تعالیٰ نے: «وما كان لنبي أن يغل» نازل کی۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: «يغل» یا کے فتحہ کے ساتھ ہے۔
