حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ. ح، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وحَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا سَمِعْتَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ مُوسَى:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا قَالَ الرَّجُلُ هَلَكَ النَّاسُ فَهُوَ أَهْلَكُهُمْ ،‏‏‏‏ قال أبو داود:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ مَالِكٌ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ تَحَزُّنًا لِمَا يَرَى فِي النَّاسِ:‏‏‏‏ يَعْنِي فِي أَمْرِ دِينِهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَا أَرَى بِهِ بَأْسًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ عُجْبًا بِنَفْسِهِ وَتَصَاغُرًا لِلنَّاسِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَهُوَ الْمَكْرُوهُ الَّذِي نُهِيَ عَنْهُ.

Urdu Translation

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جب تم سنو! ( اور موسیٰ کی روایت میں یوں ہے، کہ جب آدمی کہے ) کہ لوگ ہلاک ہو گئے تو وہی ان میں سب سے زیادہ ہلاک ہونے والا ہے ۱؎ ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: مالک نے کہا: جب وہ یہ بات دینی معاملات میں لوگوں کی روش دیکھ کر رنج سے کہے تو میں اس میں کوئی مضائقہ نہیں سمجھتا، اور جب یہ بات وہ خود پر ناز کر کے اور لوگوں کو حقیر سمجھ کر کہے تو یہی وہ مکروہ و ناپسندیدہ چیز ہے، جس سے روکا گیا ہے۔

English Translation

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: When you hear. . . . (Musa's version has): When a man says people have perished, he is the one who has suffered that fate most. Abu Dawud said: Malik said: If he says that out of sadness for the decadence of religion which he sees among the people, I do not think there is any harm in that. If he says that out of self-conceit and servility of the people, it is an abominable act which has been prohibited.
