Abdullah bin Mas'ud narrated that: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say salam to his right:As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah (peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah) , until the whiteness of his right cheek could be seen, and to his left: As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah (peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah) until the whiteness of his left cheek could be seen.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَالْأَسْوَدِ،‏‏‏‏ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ يُسَلِّمُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يُرَى بَيَاضُ خَدِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يُرَى بَيَاضُ خَدِّهِ الْأَيْسَرِ .

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم دائیں طرف «السلام عليكم ورحمة اللہ» کہتے ہوئے سلام پھیرتے یہاں تک کہ آپ کے دائیں گال کی سفیدی دکھائی دینے لگتی، اور بائیں طرف «السلام عليكم ورحمة اللہ» کہتے ہوئے سلام پھیرتے یہاں تک کہ آپ کے بائیں گال کی سفیدی دکھائی دینے لگتی۔
