It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'We are the last (to come) but will be the foremost on the Day of Resurrection, but they were given the Book before us and we were given it after them. They differed concerning this day which Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime, had prescribed for them and Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime, guided us to --meaning Friday-- so the people follow us, the Jews the next day and the Christians the day after that.'

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ. ح وَابْنُ طَاوُسٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِيهِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ نَحْنُ الْآخِرُونَ السَّابِقُونَ بَيْدَ أَنَّهُمْ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا وَأُوتِينَاهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ،‏‏‏‏ وَهَذَا الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَيْهِمْ فَاخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ فَهَدَانَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَهُ،‏‏‏‏ يَعْنِي يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَالنَّاسُ لَنَا فِيهِ تَبَعٌ الْيَهُودُ غَدًا وَالنَّصَارَى بَعْدَ غَدٍ .

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا:  ( دنیا میں )  ہم پیچھے آنے والے ہیں اور  ( قیامت میں )  آگے ہوں گے، صرف اتنی بات ہے کہ انہیں  ( یعنی یہود و نصاریٰ کو )  کتاب ہم سے پہلے دی گئی ہے، اور ہمیں ان کے بعد دی گئی ہے، یہ  ( جمعہ کا دن )  وہ دن ہے جس دن اللہ نے ان پر عبادت فرض کی تھی مگر انہوں نے اس میں اختلاف کیا ۱؎، تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس سے  ( یعنی جمعہ کے دن سے )  ہمیں نواز دیا، تو لوگ اس میں ہمارے تابع ہیں ۲؎، یہود کل کی یعنی ہفتہ ( سنیچر )  کی تعظیم کرتے ہیں، اور نصاریٰ پرسوں کی  ( یعنی اتوار کی ) ۔
