It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin Bujaid that his grandmother Umm Bujaid -who was one of those who gave the oath of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah - said to the Messenger of Allah: The poor man stands at my door, and I cannot find anything to give him. The Messenger of Allah said to her: If you cannot find anything to give to him except a sheep's burned foot, then give it to him.

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ بُجَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ أُمِّ بُجَيْدٍ وَكَانَتْ مِمَّنْ بَايَعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ الْمِسْكِينَ لَيَقُومُ عَلَى بَابِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَا أَجِدُ لَهُ شَيْئًا أُعْطِيهِ إِيَّاهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنْ لَمْ تَجِدِي شَيْئًا تُعْطِينَهُ إِيَّاهُ إِلَّا ظِلْفًا مُحْرَقًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَادْفَعِيهِ إِلَيْهِ .

ام بجید رضی الله عنہا (جو ان عورتوں میں سے ہیں جن ہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے بیعت کی تھی) کہتی ہیں کہ   انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے عرض کیا: ( کبھی ایسا ہوتا ہے ) کہ مسکین میرے دروازے پر آ کھڑا ہوتا ہے، اور میں اسے دینے کے لیے کوئی چیز موجود نہیں پاتی؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”اگر تم اسے دینے کے لیے صرف جلی ہوئی کھر ہی پاؤ تو اسے وہی دے دو“۔
