أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ حَرْمَلَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ،‏‏‏‏ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ حَجَّ عَلِيٌّ،‏‏‏‏ وَعُثْمَانُ فَلَمَّا كُنَّا بِبَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ نَهَى عُثْمَانُ عَنِ التَّمَتُّعِ ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ قَدِ ارْتَحَلَ فَارْتَحِلُوا فَلَبَّى عَلِيٌّ وَأَصْحَابُهُ بِالْعُمْرَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمْ يَنْهَهُمْ عُثْمَانُ ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَمْ أُخْبَرْ أَنَّكَ تَنْهَى عَنِ التَّمَتُّعِ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَلَى قَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَمَتَّعَ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَلَى .

Urdu Translation

سعید بن مسیب کہتے ہیں   علی اور عثمان رضی اللہ عنہما نے حج کیا تو جب ہم راستے میں تھے تو عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے تمتع سے منع کیا، علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: جب تم لوگ انہیں دیکھو کہ وہ ( عثمان ) کوچ کر گئے ہیں تو تم لوگ بھی کوچ کرو، علی رضی اللہ عنہ اور ان کے ساتھیوں نے عمرہ کا تلبیہ پکارا ( یعنی تمتع کیا ) تو عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے انہیں منع نہیں کیا، علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: کیا مجھے یہ اطلاع نہیں دی گئی ہے کہ آپ تمتع سے روکتے ہیں؟ انہوں نے کہا: کیوں نہیں ( صحیح اطلاع دی ہے ) تو علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان سے کہا: کیا آپ نے سنا نہیں ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے تمتع کیا ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا: کیوں نہیں، ضرور سنا ہے ۱؎۔

English Translation

Sa'ced bin Al-Musayyab said: Ali and 'Uthman performed Hajj, and when we were partway there, 'Uthman forbade Tamattu, 'Ali said 'When you see him setting out, set out with him (saying the Talbiyah for 'Umrah)So 'Ali and his companions recited the Talbiyah for 'Umrah, and 'Uthman did not forbid them.
