It was narrated that Jabir said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), Abu Bakr and ‘Umar did not give us so much leeway in anything as they did with regard to the prayer for the deceased,” meaning that there was nothing affixed.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حَجَّاجٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا أَبَاحَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا عُمَرُ فِي شَيْءٍ مَا أَبَاحُوا فِي الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَعْنِي:‏‏‏‏ لَمْ يُوَقِّتْ.

جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم، ابوبکر اور عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے جس قدر نماز جنازہ میں چھوٹ دی اتنی کسی چیز میں نہ دی یعنی اس کا وقت مقرر نہیں کیا۔
