It was narrated from Thawban that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Nothing increases one’s life span except righteousness and nothing repels the Divine decree except supplication, and a man may be deprived of provision by a sin that he commits.’”

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عِيسَى،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْثَوْبَانَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَزِيدُ فِي الْعُمْرِ إِلَّا الْبِرُّ،‏‏‏‏ وَلَا يَرُدُّ الْقَدَرَ إِلَّا الدُّعَاءُ،‏‏‏‏ وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيُحْرَمُ الرِّزْقَ بِالذَّنْبِ يُصِيبُهُ .

ثوبان رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: نیکی ہی عمر کو بڑھاتی ہے، اور تقدیر کو دعا کے علاوہ کوئی چیز نہیں ٹال سکتی، اور کبھی آدمی اپنے گناہ کی وجہ سے ملنے والے رزق سے محروم ہو جاتا ہے ۱؎۔
