Can We Pray Eid Prayer at Home Due to Lockdown?

Eid ul Fitr is just around the corner, and people are confused to perform Eid prayers at home due to lockdown. But according to Hanafi School, it is not permissible to perform Eid prayer at home individually. Eid ul Fitr celebrated at the end of the Ramadan but this year's situation is completely changing due to Coronavirus lockdown.

The current situation going on in the world because of coronavirus almost disturb daily life, especially social interaction. The Month of Ramadan is about to end, and Eid ul Fitr is near, but this year due to lockdown scenario is different. This year during Ramadan, people mostly stayed at home and preferred to perform their daily and Tarawih congregational prayers at home. Now many people are asking about that praying Eid prayer at home is allowed due to lockdown?

Some of the countries cancel the communal prayers and allow to Eid prayer at home, but the Pakistani government allows Eid congregational prayers with social distancing measures. But now the point is that our religion allows praying Eid prayer at home?

Is Eid prayer at home allow due to lockdown?
According to Hanafi School of Sunni Islamic Law, if someone misses the Eid Salah Jamat then if possible he should join Eid Salah Jamaat somewhere else because it is not allowed to offer Eid prayer at home individually. It is clear from the below reference that performing Eid prayer at home is not permissible in Islam as per Hanafi School. The reference that clarifies the doubts of Eid prayer at home is from the book Durre Mukhtar, volume 3, and page 67.

“If someone missed the whole Jamā’at of Eid-Ṣalāĥ, whether he couldn’t join the Jamā’at at all or his Ṣalāĥ became invalid due to any reason after entering, then if possible, he should join Jamā’at elsewhere. Otherwise, he cannot offer it individually (without Jamā’at). However, it is preferable for him to offer four Rak’āt Chāsht Ṣalāĥ. (Durr-e-Mukhtār, vol. 3, pp. 67)

Now the above reference from Hanafi School clearly explains that one person whose Eid prayer is miss should try to perform it with another Eid Prayer jamaat at somewhere else. If it’s not possible due to some reason, then he is not allowed to offer eid prayer at home individually instead of this that person should perform 4 Rakats of Namaz Chasht.
