Itikaf Ki Niyat in Islam
Itikaf is a practice among Muslims to get closer to Allah (SWT) and concentrate on forgiveness. In this guide, you will learn about the Itikaf ki niyat ki dua and its associated benefits. You will also discover why this sunnah is important and how to perform it correctly.
How Itikaf is Performed?
Itikaf is a Muslim’s spiritual retreat where the Mu’takif (one who observes Itikaf) stays in a mosque or private space to worship Allah with full devotion, especially in Ramadan. It means isolating oneself from worldly affairs and focusing on prayer, the Qur’an, and dhikr.
Itikaf ki niyat is an important concept in Islam, without which, the Itikaf is just a physical worship and not spiritual. To start, one must make the Niyat (intention): "Nawaytu Sunnatal I'tikaf." This means, "I intend to perform the Sunnah of Itikaf."
Benefits of Observing Itikaf in Ramadan
A Mu'takif receives immense rewards during this retreat. Allah spreads three trenches between the person and the fire of Hell for every day of Itikaf [Al-Mu'jam al-Awsat by Tabarani / Reported by Ibn Abbas]. Furthermore, performing Itikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan is equivalent to the reward of two Hajj and two Umrah [Baihaqi / Reported by Hazrat Imam Husain].
Types of Itikaf in Islam
In Islam, Muslims can practice 3 kinds of Itikaf:
- Wajib (Obligatory): This is for those who make a vow to Allah to perform Itikaf if a wish is granted.
- Sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah: This is the Sunnah performed during the last ten days of Ramadan.
- Mustahab / Nafl (Optional): This is a voluntary retreat performed at any time by making an intention upon entering the mosque.
The wajib, sunnat, and nafil itikaf ki niyat are different. Just replace the word "sunnat" with "wajib" or "nafil" when reciting the dua.
Do’s And Don’ts After Itikaf Ki Niyat
The Mu'takif must follow the Islamic rulings after doing Itikaf ki niyat in Arabic:
Dos
- Engage in Ibadah, Quran recitation, and Dhikr [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Page 271].
- Discuss necessary religious matters [Fatawa-e-'Alamgiri, Vol 1 Page 198].
Don'ts
- Leave the mosque without a Shariah reason, as this nullifies the act [Sahih Muslim, Vol 1, Page 371].
- Observe complete silence as a form of worship, as this is Makruh [Fatawa-e-'Alamgiri, Vol 1 Page 198].
These ensure you spend this time in peace and Ibadah without thinking about the world. You can also read the itikaf ki niyat ki dua in Urdu, Arabic, or any language as long as the meaning is the same.
