I'm so stressed
(Muhammad Shoaib Tanoli, )
“I'm so stressed. I’m working
14-16 hour days. We all are. Our clients demand it. Our boss demands it. What do
I do?”
I hear this A LOT. Particularly from professionals in service-based industries.
If you’re stressed at work because of unrealistic demands, or a toxic work
environment. Ask yourself – what are you doing it for? Is it worth it?
I know it might feel like you don't have a choice but YOU DO.
Choose to let the fear of loss of income, lifestyle or reputation keep you
trapped. And risk burnout. Or worse.
Or choose to put your health and sanity first.
“But I want my kids to have what I didn’t.” I get it. I really do.
But remember – a dead battery is of no use to anyone. What your family really
need is you.
I took a 40% pay cut and moved to a tiny apartment to leave a toxic job. A
short-term sacrifice for long-term gain. Best decision I ever made.
If you can't demand respect from your employer and clients, demand it from
YOURSELF. Make your health your priority.
Figure out what’s most important to you in life and align your career to that
instead.
Sacrifices are temporary. Money can be earned back.
Your life cannot.
