Education System
(Shermeen Shahab, Karachi)
Education is very important for every human being. It makes one able to understand what is happening around us logically and clearly. Only educated person has the ability to take practical decisions and make right moves at the right time. Human existence without education is just like plain land which is not good for anything. Education not only enables individuals to put their potential to best use and do something productive in the upcoming future, but also plays a main role in shaping an individual to be a better, responsible citizen and an active member of the society. An educated person with self-confidence and precise moves knows how to transform the world. Education provides the ladder for achieving success in life and enables us to utilize skills and caliber in a constructive way. Therefore, it’s the prime responsibility of an individual to get educated and live a prosperous life while being a responsible citizen. Education, much like everything else in the field of human knowledge, is rooted to philosophy. The curriculum texts, teaching pedagogies and school structures all reflect a particular philosophical premise. Be it the idealist school or the existentialist one, the pragmatist theorists or those who seek to use education for social change in the critical paradigm, education is about ‘wide-awakeness’.
In Pakistan I feel education is a topic which is given least importance whereas it should be the first one. A good number of children are not lucky enough to get basic education. Schools on the other hand are now a money making business and is unaffordable by children. Government schools condition and attendance of teachers is compromised which is a major setback.
Pakistanis have huge potential and this country is filled with talent but the polish of education can make this country prosper in every field. Government needs to take necessary measures for developing a better education system in Pakistan which is in reach by everyone.
Education from Montessori to Intermediate should be free so that everyone can get basic education. Educated nations are always in a better position and that’s why even our constitution says it: The Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan says,
“The state of Pakistan shall remove illiteracy and provide free and compulsory secondary education within minimum possible period.”
Private school system should be replaced by government institutions and quality of education should be that focus point not money because poverty is one of the major factors which restricts children from going to school followed by allocation of funds, gender discrimination and also untrained teachers makes our education systems development difficult.
It’s high time for Pakistani government to take necessary measures for the betterment of our education system so that the upcoming generations are fully equipped with knowledge and weapon of education to fight all crises and difficulties which Pakistan is facing today. We have fresh minds here which just require the right knowledge in order to grow and make Pakistan proud.
